Germany begins their 2022 World Cup campaign in Group E against Japan today. They are unbeaten in their last four meetings with the Japanese having won two and drew two.

The two last met in a warm-up match for the 2006 World Cup played on 30th May 2006 and it ended 2:2 at the Bay Arena in Leverkusen.

They have never faced each other at a World cup match this will be the first meeting at the finals.

Germany will be making their 20th World Cup appearance while Japan will be appearing for the seventh time.
