Marca, a Spanish news outlet, reports that Benzema has been training without any issues since last Saturday, indicating that he is fit and could unexpectedly join the French team in Qatar.
French coach Didier Deschamps did not replace him, which means he is still eligible to feature at the ongoing World Cup if his services will be needed.
The Real Madrid superstar was ruled out of the tournament before it even began due to a thigh injury.
With the devastating injury that he suffered just days before France’s first game, Benzema was given a three-week recovery period which has since elapsed.
After his team qualified for the final last night, Deschamps was asked about the possibility of the reigning Ballon d’Or winner returning to his squad this Sunday, but his response was evasive.
“I don’t really want to answer that question, sorry,” he told journalists.
It remains to be seen whether Benzema, who was also not a member of the French team that won the World Cup in 2018, will be called back to the squad that will face Argentina in the final on Sunday as they attempt to become the first country in 60 years to win the trophy twice in a row.
