As France prepares to defend a trophy they won four years ago, they have lost yet another star from their squad due to an injury.
Karim Benzema will no longer be a part of the French squad after suffering an injury during training.
Didier Deschamps must be gutted knowing he will be without a man that won the Ballon D’or as Real Madrid clinched the La Liga, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, and European Super Cup.
Benzema won four titles will Real Madrid and was hoping to add the prestigious World Cup to his trophy cabinet in Qatar.
After being ruled out of the tournament, he took to social media to confirm the unfortunate development and said he had to give up so that someone fit can take his place for the good of the team.
“In my life, I have never given up but tonight I have to think of the team as I have always done so reason tells me to leave my place to someone who can help our group to make a great world cup,” he wrote on Twitter. “Thank you for all your messages of support.”
This is the first time the French man was making a return to the National team after being omitted on disciplinary grounds back in 2015 due to his transgressions during the 2010 World Cup.
The Qatar World Cup has already been characterized by a lot of injuries that have seen a galaxy of stars being sidelined, perhaps this is a reflection of how the bulky match schedules prior to the World Cup have taken their toll on most players.
France will now be without Ngolo Kanté, Paul Pogba, Christopher Nkunku, and Benzema.
It remains to be seen how Les Bleus will copy without these top stars in their squad when they kick off their World Cup campaign in Group D where they were drawn against Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia.
They will play their opening match against Australia on Tuesday at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
