In May of this year, the 17-year-old took part in FC Zurich trials before returning to Zambia and joining Nkwazi FC.
While in Zurich, he was part of the youth team that won the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup 2023 and said he learned a lot of valuable lessons during that short stint.
Banda was unable to sign a professional contract because he was underage. However, he has confirmed that after turning 18 on December 17th, he will return to Zurich.
“Some people thought that I failed trials in Zurich,” he said. “But the issue was that I was young and couldn’t sign a contract. I will be going back to Zurich next month.”
Banda, who also attended trials at FC Barcelona in Spain last year, promised to make an impression in Switzerland.
“I want to go to Europe and succeed there; I don’t want to come back. I’ll put in a lot of effort and achieve my dreams,” he declared.
Banda admitted that his unsuccessful trials in Barcelona had affected him, but his single mother has been encouraging him to continue working hard.
“I was hurt and always wondered why my friends were not coming back after attending trials in Europe and it was only me who was returning home.
“It affected me a lot, but my mother has been telling me to continue working hard as my time will come.”
