Erling Haaland has failed to score in his last three appearances for Manchester City after scoring 27 goals in 25 games since joining last summer, prompting widespread criticism from fans and pundits.
But his manager, Pep Guardiola, has come to his defense and taken the blame for the Norwegian’s failure to find the back of the net in his last three appearances.
The Spaniard believes the supply of the ball to the striker needs to improve in order for him to score.
“We have our game; we have our principles, but the way we played in the last two games didn’t help Erling score,” he said. “In the past, we have always had incredible movements in the final third, in the small spaces. Now, in the last two games, we haven’t had it. I would say it was my fault. I didn’t make them understand the way we have to attack.
“We need runners, not just Erling. If we had just Erling, he would be controlled by two or three central defenders. We need more players in those positions, definitely. We have done it. We have to do it more often.”
City who have won the Premier League four times in the last five seasons, and are currently the defending Champions are now eight points behind leaders Arsenal in the standings with 39 points.
The citizens will face Tottenham Hotspur tonight, who defeated them back-to-back last season, and it remains to be seen if the Norwegian will finally find the back of the net.
For punters, it would be a safe option to go for goals in this match.
