Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has reassured fans that midfielder Bruno Fernandes will not be sold this summer, despite rumors linking him to a potential move to Real Madrid.
Fernandes, who openly considered his future at the club last summer, has continued to impress for a United team that has underperformed this season. While the Red Devils are currently 13th in the Premier League, Fernandes remains the club’s leader in both goals (8) and assists (10).
With United struggling to meet Fernandes’ ambitions as he approaches his 31st birthday, reports surfaced suggesting that Real Madrid might make a £90m offer for the Portuguese midfielder.
When asked about the speculation, Amorim was clear in his response, assuring fans there was no cause for concern.
“It’s not going to happen,” Amorim said about the potential move to Madrid, adding that he is committed to convincing Fernandes that he can still achieve his goals at Old Trafford.
“That is the challenge. I want Bruno here because, like I said, maybe in the lowest moments of our season, we want to win the Premier League again. So we want the best players to continue with us. He’s 29 , I think, but he’s still so young because he plays 50, 55 games every season. Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least. So he’s the type of player that we want here, he’s not going anywhere.”
We are in control of the situation- Amorim
Amorim also explained his confidence by revealing he had spoken to Fernandes about his future at the club.
“We are in control of the situation, and I feel that he’s really happy here, especially because he understands what we want to do,” Amorim said. “And then I think he’s one more supporter of Manchester United and he really feels it.
“And sometimes the frustration that you see, everybody sees and says that maybe it’s not a good thing in a captain, it’s a sign that he wants this so bad. So this is the kind of player that we want, and he’s not going anywhere because I already told him.”
