On Sunday evening, at Etihad stadium, Manchester City cut down the points difference to three points after beating Arsenal 2-1 in Matchday 33 of the Premier League.

Erling Haaland’s second-half strike fired City to a 2-1 win, as Rayan Cherki fired City into a 16th-minute lead which had lasted only 30 seconds before Arsenal drew level through Kai Havertz after the Gunners striker harried an attempted Gianluigi Donnarumma clearance with the ball ricocheting into the net.

The gunners are on top with 70 points while the Cityzens remain second with 67 points.

Reacting to the result, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said the win over the log leaders has given them hope to pursue the title.

“It was OK!’ Enjoying, I don’t think, is the right word. It gave us hope, that’s all. Enjoy the moment but don’t lose the focus now. We have four long weeks, and I know what the message will be,” Guardiola said.

Guardiola also praised Arsenal’s quality. He added that his team now has a chance to realistically defend the league title.

Manchester City will now face Burnley in a rescheduled away match on Wednesday.

“We impressed and the quality from the opponent; they are really good. They are extraordinary; otherwise, you cannot be the all-season top of the Premier League,” he said.

“We are there. The reality is they are top of the league. Goal difference? They are better. We have got hope to extend the chance to fight until the end.”

The Gunners have five Premier League matches remaining this season, starting with Newcastle at home next Saturday.
