Gunners disappoint boss after giving City momentum in the title race

Mikel Arteta was gutted by Arsenal's performance in the Premier League on Sunday when they dropped points to give Man City a boost in the title race.

The Gunners recorded yet another draw at the hands of West Ham United as they dropped points in the title race of the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus and captain Martin Odegaard put the Gunners in the lead in the first half but goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen leveled matters.

Bukayo Saka had a chance to make it three for the Gunners but missed a penalty.

The result saw the gap between the Gunners and defending champions, Manchester City reduce to four points.

However, reacting after the match, Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta told the club’s website that the result is disappointing and a huge setback.

“The result is very disappointing, as well as the performance. Especially after the first 30 or 35 minutes,” bemoaned Arteta. “We started the game incredibly well, dominating it with real purpose, scored two beautiful goals. After that we made a huge mistake, just to think we could play around them.”

He added: “We didn’t have the same purpose to attack the opponents goal and protect that result by having the ball. We gave them hope instead of killing them in this moment, we gave them hope.”

The Spaniard gaffer has since tipped his team to win all their remaining matches as the title race heats up.

“This is what we need now, don’t take anything for granted-we need to deserve to win matches in this league. Today we did exceptionally well for 35 minutes, but then it was not enough,” concluded Arteta.

Arsenal who are looking to win the league for the first time in 19 years, will now shift focus to their next match against relegation-threatened Southampton on Friday.

The Gunners are hoping to win their 14th league title this season.
