Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explained his team’s blunder at Anfield on Sunday night.

The Gunners failed to extend their lead in the Premier League standings after drawing 2-2 with Liverpool.

Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in the first half gave the visitors a lead before Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino equalized for the home team to force a draw.

The result meant Arsenal’s eight-point lead on the table was cut to six points above second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

After the game, Arteta blamed his team’s inability to win on a lack of consistency.

He said the team played well in the first half but failed to replicate the same form in the second half.

“In the first half, we were very dominating, very composed, and very clear in how we wanted to attack them. We scored two beautiful goals and had the game controlled.

“Then at that moment, we had to do the exact same thing and kill the game [but we couldn’t ],” said Arteta.

Arteta has since urged his team to be consistent in their next fixtures as the title race heats up.

“It’s Crystal clear- the lesson is play the way we played from the beginning. Regardless of the context and the result, we have to continue to do that way,” Arteta said. “Don’t go speculating about doing something different. This is our strength, it’s why we have won so many games… And this is how we are going to win many more games from here to the end of the season.”
