Patson Daka had only played one match in 19 league games at Leicester City before December 9, 2023, making the bench 10 times and missing the squad eight times.

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca stated that he preferred Jamie Vardy and Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho to lead Leicester’s frontline over Daka.

That made many fans suggest that he leave the club in search of game time elsewhere.

Following the absences of Iheanacho and Vardy due to illness and injury, respectively, Maresca turned to Daka, who went on to score two back-to-back goals against Plymouth and Millwall while making three starts in the club’s last three Championship games.

Mweene’s advice to Daka on his future with Leicester City

Maresca stated that he was unsure about Daka’s future at the club ahead of the January transfer window, but that he was still one of his players and promised to give him enough game time after the Zambian scored in his first start of the season.

In the previous transfer window, Daka attempted to join AFC Bournemouth and AC Milan, but both deals fell through on deadline day.

However, former Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, who is Zambia’s most-capped player with 122 caps, has advised Daka to stay at Leicester City.

“Leicester City is coming back to the Premier League; the only thing I will say is that if there is no team and it’s just rumours, he must stay put at Leicester City,” Mweene said.

“He will come back to the EPL [English Premier League]. I did the same thing when I was playing for the Free State Stars when we went down. I was playing on the national team but in the second tier, until the team came back in the premier league.

The one & only! 🧤

“For him, it’s almost the same as me; he must just do his job there. He might even move to a bigger team when Leicester City come back to the Premier League.

“But if there is no team that wants him, he should stay put. I would like him to stay at Leicester City,’ concluded the 2012 AfCON winner.
