The Zambia under-20 national team defeated Angola 3-2 on penalty shootouts following a 1-1 draw on Friday to qualify for the 2023 Egypt U-20 Africa cup of nations( AFCON)

Despite Angola drawing first blood through a Domingos Bandeira headed goal in the 30th from a corner, the young Chipolopolo boys were quick to respond in the 40th minute when Zesco United FC youngster Songa Chipoka scored with a stunning freekick.

It was Chipyoka’s second goal in the competition and 6th for Zambia at this year’s COSAFA cup which is doubling as a qualifier for the U-20 AFCON.

Zambian goalkeeper Tembo made two saves to secure victory for his side that have now remained unbeaten at the competition and will look to win their 12th COSAFA cup.

Zambia have since sealed their qualification to the AFCON for the first time in 5 years and will play Mozambique in the final on Sunday for the Cosafa cup title.

The last time the young Chipolopolo boys played at the AFCON was in 2017 when they hosted and won it on home soil with the likes of Leicester City striker Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala, Enock Mwepu, among the members of the winning squad.
