Copper Queens coach in a dilemma, team set for a four-team tourney in Turkey

FAZ has announced in a statement that the Copper Queens will begin their pre-world cup preparations in a four-team tournament.

The team will take part in the Turkish Women’s Cup to be held from 13-22 February 2023 in Alanya, Turkey.

Hosts Turkey, Slovenia, and Uzbekistan are the other teams that will compete in the tournament, according to FAZ.

Coach Bruce Mwape, however, is in a quandary when it comes to selecting his final squad. He has been spoiled with a variety of top performers available for selection.

Forwards Racheal Kundananji, Hellen Chanda, Ximora Mapepe, and Ochumba Oseke are all performing admirably for their clubs. Barbra Banda, the team’s captain, is also available for a spot in the final squad, giving Mwape even more headaches.

In the midfield, Grace Chanda, Evarine Katongo, Ireen Lungu, and Avell Chitundu are among the many options.

Mwape also has Lushomo Mwemba, Martha Tembo, Agness Musesa, and Magret Belemu all available for his defense. But it is likely that he would want to make reinforcements ahead of the showpiece, triggering more competition.

Meanwhile, FAZ earlier stated that they also intend to host a friendly match in Lusaka for the Copper Queens as a send-off to the World Cup.

Zambia will be making a maiden appearance at the Women’s World Cup which is set to kick on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand.

They were drawn in Group C alongside Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan.
