Zambian striker Ingoma Mwanza, who netted 14 goals in 19 games for CD Azuaga in the Spanish fifth tier in 2024, opened up about his underwhelming 2025-26 campaign with UD Melila B. In an exclusive interview with BolaNews, the Pretoria-born attacker reflected on his injury problems, subpar performances, and captain responsibilities.
Mwanza joined UD Melilla B at the beginning of the season on a season-long loan from Segunda Federacion outfit Xerez Deportivo, who snapped him up from CD Azuaga in January 2025.
After scoring 14 goals in 19 games for CD Azuaga in the first half of the 2024-25 season, expectations were high when Mwanza joined UD Melila B in the summer.
However, the 25-year-old tallied only two goals in 21 matches for Melilla B in the Tercera Federación (Spanish fifth tier) during the just-concluded 2024-25 season. The drop in his goalscoring numbers was worsened by a torn ligament in his thigh, which kept him out of action for three months.

Speaking about the ordeal, Mwanza told BolaNews, “For me as an individual, this season was quite difficult because I had a really long injury of three months. It was very tough mentally. But I kept going strong. I am healed now.”
“In terms of personal performance, I didn’t perform as well as I could have. But I also feel like I learnt a lot throughout the season for me to do better next season,” Mwanza added.
Mwanza was one of UD Melila B’s club captains, leading the club to survival as they finished just two points above the relegation zone in Group IX of the Tercera Federacion.
The 25 year old further explained, “In terms of the club, It was having a lot of problems. The situation in the club wasn’t very good. Other than that, we completed our objective. We did what we were supposed to do, which was to avoid relegation.”
“I am one of the club captains. It feels great especially in a foreign country, that coaches and teammates can trust you which such a responsibility.”
Mwanza, who has previously expressed to BolaNews his desire to represent his country of descent, Zambia, at the national team level, is currently contracted with Spanish fourth-tier side Xerez Deportivo until June 2027.
