Zambia U-17 national team captain and Kafue Celtic defender Jonnathan Kalimina has been invited for trials at Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg, as earlier reported by Zamfoot.

The 17-year-old earned the opportunity following a string of impressive performances at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he captained Zambia to a historic first-ever appearance in the knockout stage.

Kalimina is set to spend one month training with Salzburg’s development side as the club assesses him ahead of a potential move. He is expected to return to Zambia on February 7.

He joins fellow Zambian youngster Caleb Musonda, who travelled to Austria last week for trials at Salzburg. Musonda has been training with the club’s academy side for the past three months, with Salzburg continuing to monitor his progress.

Red Bull Salzburg and Kafue Celtic share a strong developmental link, having previously nurtured Zambian stars Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, both of whom passed through the two clubs before securing Premier League moves to Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively.
