Chipolopolo captain Fashion Sakala has voiced his sympathy following the killing of a 46-year-old woman in Kalumbila, North-Western Province.
Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe from Chingola was murdered by a violent mob in Kalumbila after a 25-year-old man, only identified as Prince Ntambo, accused her of magically stealing his manhood when they met at Kisansa Market.
Ntambo claimed to have lost his manhood after contact with the woman, leading to a mob attacking and stoning her to death.
Many prominent people have reacted to the tragic incident, with Chipolopolo captain Fashion Sakala saying it was upsetting and that he could not stay quiet any longer.
“I don’t usually speak about such matters, but there are moments when silence is no longer an option. There is more we can offer to one another through our words than by staying quiet,” the Saudi Arabia-based striker said.
“The death of Hellen Kamutumbe in Kalumbila is deeply heartbreaking and has shaken us all. It is a painful reminder of what can happen when jealousy, envy, and ignorance are allowed to grow unchecked.
Sakala slams “misleading” beliefs
“We must begin to question the dangerous and misleading beliefs we pass down, false ideas about private parts being stolen and pride that end up putting lives at risk. How many more people will be beaten or killed over these false accusations?” he wondered.
“True strength is not found in proving a point through anger or violence, but in self-control and the ability to uplift others. As a nation and as a community, we must rise above the forces that divide us.”
Meanwhile, police have detained Ntambo along with 17 other people in connection with the murder of the businesswoman.
President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema has directed the Police and other security agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations into the brutal killing and arrest everyone involved.
