Zambian international Aime Mabika will be on the lookout for a new club next month after Toronto FC opted not to renew his contract for the upcoming MLS season.
Mabika, who joined the Canadian side earlier this year from Inter Miami for €91,000, struggled to establish himself in the starting lineup, making only 12 league appearances, three of which were starts.
Toronto FC confirmed their decision to release several players, including Mabika, in a statement on their website in late October. “The club declined the 2025 contract options for goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh, defenders Aimé Mabika, Shane O’Neill, and midfielder Brandon Servania,” the statement read. “For select players who had their options declined, conversations about returning to Toronto FC in 2025 and beyond are still ongoing.”
Since 2018, Mabika’s career has taken him to multiple clubs in search of regular game time. He began with a loan stint at Cincinnati Dutch Lions from the University of Kentucky Wildcats before joining Inter Miami in January 2021. After struggling for minutes, he spent time on loan at Fort Lauderdale, returning to Miami in early 2022, only to transfer to Toronto FC in April 2023.
Mabika’s international career has also seen challenges. Despite securing a Zambian passport in March 2023, he has not made further appearances for Zambia beyond his debut in a friendly against Congo Brazzaville in March 2022. Once a regular on Zambia’s provisional squad under coach Avram Grant, his national team prospects have since faded.
With his Toronto contract set to expire on January 1, Mabika is likely to move again in search of consistent playing opportunities.
