Chipolopolo midfielder Kings Kangwa is still on course to land his third career league title and a Champions League qualification despite his side, Hapoel Beer Sheva’s 3-1 loss to leaders Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Kangwa scored his side’s consolation goal to keep up with his impressive form and take his tally for the season to 11 goals in 27 matches in the league.

The loss saw Sheva give up command of the top slot of the championship race to Tel Aviv, but the gap is only two points. Tel Aviv leads with 63 points with eight games to go.

Kangwa’s team is still in the running for the championship, which has been dominated by Tel Aviv in the last four seasons.

The league format sees 14 clubs compete in the regular season before the top six are put in the championship pool to determine the Champions and European spots.

The team with the most points at the end of this phase is crowned champion. If teams are tied, tiebreakers are applied in this order: head-to-head record, goal difference in head-to-head matches, overall goal difference, goals scored, and finally, fair play ranking.

Should Sheva win the title, it will be Kangwa’s third league title, having won two titles with Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.
