Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa has made a bright start to the new season, scoring in back-to-back matches despite Hapoel Be’er Sheva ending up on the losing side in both games.

Kangwa was on target in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first leg as Hapoel Be’er Sheva suffered a 2-1 defeat to Icelandic side Víkingur Reykjavík.

The 27-year-old, who finished last season with 12 goals and nine assists in 33 appearances and was named the Israeli league’s Player of the Season, has continued his fine form. His latest strike came just days after he also scored in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s 3-1 Israeli Super Cup defeat to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

“Very happy to score my second goal in the UEFA competition. Used to dream of nights like this,” Kangwa posted on his Facebook page after the game. “Not the result we wanted but just the first half. 90 mins more at home next week.”

Kangwa and Hapoel Be’er Sheva will have an opportunity to overturn the deficit in the second leg on Wednesday when they host Víkingur Reykjavík, with a place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League at stake.
