Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant has said he will pick players for the national team based on their recent performance.

He was on the Copperbelt over the weekend monitoring potential national team players.

Grant watched the games between Power Dynamos and Green Eagles, and Zesco United and Nkwazi F.C which both ended scoreless.

The gaffer stated after the matches that the level of football he witnessed was adequate but called for improvement.

“My impression is good; there are a lot of good games, but generally, my impression is good,” he said.

“The level is okay; the players really try hard; but there are things that we need to improve on.”

He explained that the Chipolopolo are not yet in camp, unlike their next opponents, Lesotho, because the majority are abroad.

“Our players play abroad, and we cannot start our preparations with half the team,” Grant told Journalists.

“We have two months, so the preparation is off the pitch and to watch players for every team. Then we will start our preparations on the FIFA Window. We cannot do anything before.”

Grant added that the door is open for every player, local or foreign, to play for the Chipolopolo.

“The door is open for every player, those who play here or abroad. At the end of the day, we will pick players who perform well and do everything to win the games.”

The former Chelsea coach will be in charge of Zambia when they take on Lesotho on the 20th of March in the qualifiers.

Zambia and Comoros both have 3 points, while the Ivory Coast has 4 points and tops the group. Lesotho is at the bottom of the group with one point.
