With the Zambia Men’s National Team set to begin their pursuit of a maiden World Cup appearance in 2026, Avram Grant has named the squad to begin the qualifiers.
As reported by BolaNews last week, Frankie Musonda, who last played for his club in September due to a calf injury, will miss next week’s match against Congo Brazzaville.
Despite this, the squad is made up of in-form players who have recently caused heatwaves at their respective clubs.
Making the cut is in-form forward Edward Chilufya, who is on loan to BK Hacken from Midtjylland and has 5 goals in 7 games. Fashion Sakala, who also has six goals and two assists in 12 games for Al Fayha, is another notable member of the squad.
The ever-present Patson Daka has also been called despite having less game time at Leicester City. The striker, who has netted 15 goals since 2017 for Zambia, will be key for the campaign.
US Lecce speedy winger Lameck Banda also returns to the selection after missing the October outings due to injury.
Brian Mwila is the latest addition to Grant’s team, replacing on-loan Cadiz striker Francisco Mwepu following his recent form for Zanaco Football Club where he has netted four goals in his last three matches.
Power Dynamos goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga returns to the squad alongside Green Buffaloes’ Francis Mwansa and Red Arrows number one, Charles Kalumba.
Others include captain Lubambo Musonda, Benson Sakala, and AFCON 2012-winning duo, Stophila Sunzu and Evans Kangwa.
Zambia will face playing Congo Brazzaville on November 15, before taking on Niger three days later on November 18.
