Grant announces Chipolopolo squad for World Cup qualifiers, Sakala misses out

Fashion Sakala has been left out of the national team for the second time, while Kabaso Chongo has been called up.

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant has named a 27-man provisional squad for back-to-back Group E FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Tanzania.

Zambia will face the Atlas Lions in Agadir on June 7 before welcoming the Taifa Stars four days later at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Kabwe Warriors defender, Kabaso Chongo has been recalled to the squad, and Cagliari FC striker Kingston Mutandwa has received his first senior team call-up.

Kings Kangwa who is on loan to Kortrijk has also returned after missing the Four Nations Tournament in March.

Meanwhile, US Lecce winger Lameck Banda is out due to injury following surgery. Clatous Chama is said to have come off an injury, according to a statement from the Football Association of Zambia.

Fashion Sakala has scored nine goals in his last 31 games for Zambia; only Patson Daka has more (21).

Other notables missing from the squad include Saudi Arabia-based in-form striker Fashion Sakala, who was not called up during the previous outing.

Zambia is second in Group E with three points, tied with leaders Moroccowho lead on goal difference. Niger is third followed by Tanzania who also have three points while Congo Brazzaville is at the bottom with no points.
