Last year, Clatous Chama was handed a three-match ban for unsporting behaviour at his club, Simba SC, in the Tanzanian Premier League.
Chama’s undoing was refusing to shake hands with opposing players during the pre-match formalities of the heated derby against rival Yanga SC.
In 2020, Chama was in the limelight for the wrong reasons when then Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic alleged that he had dropped the player for a national team engagement after missing two flights.

The player responded with a statement in which he stated otherwise.
There was another incident in 2017 when Wedson Nyirenda sidelined Chama after the player stormed out of the pitch angrily after being substituted in a match against Swaziland.
Agent defends Chama
However, Chama’s agent, Nyambe, has suggested in a Facebook post that there is a side of Chama that most people don’t see.
“This is Clatous Chama, the guy that got me to propel Next-Gen Sports Agency to another level,” Nyambe stated on Wednesday.
“Over the years, people have considered him a controversial character but if there is someone who always gets back home, Clatous is such a one. To this day, he will send every document he receives for me to go through before signing; that’s the discipline most people never know and see.”
Nyambe stated that the pair do not always agree on certain issues but that this has also helped them strengthen their relationship.
“We don’t always agree on certain issues but that’s normal for any healthy relationship and that is what gets people to grow!! Triple-C, you’ll go down in history as one of Zambia’s best-ever talents! Zambian Super League Legend. Clatous Chamah”
