Chipolopolo and Simba SC midfielder Clatous Chama will miss Thursday’s international friendly match against Israel after his club reportedly did not grant his permission to join the National team together with his compatriot Moses Phiri.

This has not settled well with multiple fans who have since labeled the Tanzanian-based midfielder “unpatriotic” for failing to honor the National team call-up twice in a row.

Despite the backlash from fans especially on social media, Chama was quick to issue a statement and said: “This is not an international FIFA break for all the countries. It’s only for those countries that are going to Qatar. The league here can be a farmers league or anything you call it but it’s active and hence the league games are on this week, the next one being tomorrow the 16th, and the next one on the 19th of November.”

Chama added that even if he is serving a suspension, he is still training with his club and is not allowed to leave.

“Yes, I’m suspended but that doesn’t mean I have not been going to work, and lastly our international friendly is on the 17th of November in Israel if am not mistaken it will take me two days from Israel to Tanzania meaning I can only be here on 19th hence missing out another league game,” said the former Zesco United and Lusaka Dynamos FC midfielder.

Multiple fans have however continued sending messages to the midfielder via various social media platforms expressing their disappointment while some have come to his defense.

Bernard kunda Mubanga: “We love Triple C just that we had too many excuses. We want to see you don our Zambian jersey.”

Patrick didi: “Criticism is part of the game, just stay strong, and may God bless you.”

D’dama Kamanga: “This is really sad. All in all, you always have been strong and focused.”

Calvin Appreciate Kanji: “Chama is Suspended so why should they hold him back when he is needed for National duty?“

Leko Lako: “Chama is not Patriotic. he is full of excuses. Awe Sure.”

Musonda Chanda: “Why Chama always on excuse when called upon for national friendlies? I think FAZ should concentrate on players ready to show up when called upon.”
