Ayr United FC supporters in Scotland raised £2,325 (K79,906) for Chipolopolo defender Frankie Musonda’s Zambian superfan to visit Ayrshire and tour Somerset Park.

Charles Chibaala, a 32-year-old Zambian fan based in Monze, has gained recognition from his fellow fans in Ayrshire as a result of his Facebook and Twitter comments.

Chibaala made headlines in Scotland for his ongoing love and support for the club and Musonda on social media.

He explained to BolaNews how it all began.

“When they signed Frankie, I became an ardent follower of the club. So one day I made a comment on their Facebook page that I wanted the club’s shirt, and someone came to my inbox asking for my address,” Chibaala narrated. “A month later, he sent me the Ayr replica and scarf. Since then, I have never missed Ayr’s matches.”

The Scottish fans through a crowdfunding campaign, raised £2,325 for Chibaala, a teacher and lawyer by profession, to travel and watch Ayr United’s games at Somerset Park in Scotland.

Charles finally meets Frankie in Scotland

After a year of waiting, it was all smiles for Chabaala who finally made it to Scotland, where he was shown around and met Frankie. He also interacted with the club’s officials.

Musonda has become a fan favorite since changing his international allegiance to Zambia.

He has also earned the nickname “The Remote Controller” due to his style of play, which involves constantly organizing his teammates and communicating on the pitch via hand gestures.

Unfortunately, Musonda will miss next week’s AFCON qualifiers due to an injury that will keep him out for at least four weeks.

He has made 14 appearances for Zambia and scored one goal, which came on his debut against Congo Brazzaville in a friendly match in 2022.

Musonda was also part of Zambia’s squad that qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they were eliminated in group stage following 1-1 draws against DR Congo and Tanzania before losing 1-0 to Morocco.
