Manchester United- Carabao Cup winners

Manchester United won their first trophy in six years after beating Newcastle United 2-0 on Sunday at Wembley Stadium to lift the 2023 Carabao Cup.

It is also their first trophy under new manager Erik ten Hag who has revitalized the Red Devils.

Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro, put United ahead in the 33rd minute and an own goal from the Magpies’ Sven Botman sealed the victory for the Manchester side.

The Carabao Cup is also their first since they won the Europa League in 2017 under José Mourinho.

Newcastle who were appearing in their first major final since 1999, missed out on a chance to win their first trophy in 68 years.

The Magpies last won a trophy in 1955 when they lifted the FA Cup.

They now turn their attention to the league, where they are currently fighting for a top-four finish and sit fifth in the standings with 41 points.

On the other hand, United are still in the contest for the FA Cup and the Europa League and they will be aiming for a treble this season.

In addition, the Red Devils are now third in the Premier League standings and still have a chance to win the competition as they are only nine points behind league-leading Arsenal.
