Young Africans (Yanga SC) of Tanzania qualified for the TotalEnergies CAF Confederations final for the first time with a 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants in South Africa.

The victory saw Yanga progress 4-1 on aggregate, having won 2-0 in the first leg, played in Dar es Salaam last week.

Fiston Mayele scored the opener for Yanga after his initial effort was saved by the keeper, but netted from the rebound from close range.

In the second half, Zambia’s Kennedy Musonda doubled the lead for the visitors.

The Gallants cut the deficit in the 90th minute when Chivaviro headed in Lucky Mohomi’s cross.

Yanga will face USM Alger in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup on the 28th of May 2023.

Musonda in a double win

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo striker, Kennedy Musonda, who will compete for his first CAF title with Yanga, expressed his delight at being part of the team that qualified for the final.

“Am proud to be part of this great team. A goal to help the team to qualify for the CAF Confederations cup final,” he wrote on Instagram.

Musonda has had a stellar season, he will also receive a winners medal from Zambian Super League champions, Power Dynamos where he scored 15 goals before joining Yanga middle-way into the season.

And Yanga S.C coach Nasreddine Nabbi has urged his side to go all out and attempt to win the title to make more history for Tanzanian football.

“I am very happy to make this team to the final. We are the first Tanzanian team to do so, and it is a huge achievement for us. Now we will try to win this cup,” he said during the press conference after the game.

Yanga F.C. became only the second Tanzanian team to reach a continental football final, with Simba reaching the final of the then CAF Cup in 1993.
