Zambian representatives in the CAF interclub competitions, Zesco United and Power Dynamos, are set to earn upwards of US$100,000 following CAF’s announcement to double participation fees for competing clubs.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe revealed that the football governing body is working to increase its financial contributions by 100% to more than 130 African clubs taking part in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
“I am very happy with the processes underway to increase by 100% CAF’s financial contributions to each of the approximately 130 African clubs that participate in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup. CAF contributed for the first time last year, USD 50,000 to each club. Each club should now receive USD 100,000,” said Motsepe in a statement made available to BolaNews.
Zesco United will represent Zambia in the CAF Confederation Cup, while Zambian champions Power Dynamos will feature in the CAF Champions League.
The increase is part of CAF’s broader strategy to enhance club football across the continent and reduce the financial burden on participating teams.
