Malawi league champions Silver Strikers will be forced to enter the market for a qualified coach to lead their campaign in the CAF Champions League, following the revelation that their current head coach, Peter Mgangira, lacks the required credentials.
Mgangira—a club legend—and his assistant Mapopa Msukwa both do not possess the mandatory CAF A coaching licence, which is a prerequisite for head coaches participating in CAF competitions. Without the licence, the two can only be registered as assistant coaches, putting pressure on the club to secure a suitably qualified leader ahead of their continental debut.
Silver Strikers earned their spot in this year’s CAF Champions League after clinching the Malawi league title last season, ending a nine-year title drought. It marks the Lilongwe-based club’s first-ever appearance in Africa’s premier club tournament.
Despite the coaching setback, Silver Strikers CEO Patrick Chimimba has urged fans to remain calm, assuring them that the club is taking necessary steps to address the situation.
