Haller puts Dortmund a win away from clinching Bundesliga title

The Ivory Coast striker's brace ensured Dortmund are now the favourites to win the 2022–23 Bundesliga after taking a two-point lead over Bayern on Sunday.

Following Bayern Munich’s shock home loss to RB Leipzig on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund now leads the Bundesliga title race.

The Bavarians suffered a 3-1 defeat on Saturday at the hands of RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.

Dortmund then moved two points clear of Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga standings after defeating Augsburg 3-0 at the WWK Arena on Sunday.

Ivorian striker Sebastian Haller scored twice as Dortmund took control of the Bundesliga title race going into next week’s Bundesliga season finale.

Haller opened the scoring in the 58th minute and completed his brace in the 84th minute before Julian Brandt added the cherry on the cake with a stoppage-time goal to make it three.

Meanwhile, Haller who underwent surgery and Chemotherapy before his return to action in 2023, said that it is a great chance for his side to achieve something big.

“If someone told me six months ago that I would be in this situation today, I would not have believed them. We have invested a lot, and now we have a chance to achieve something big. There is no magic. It is about investing, then it comes,” he said after the game.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic also said that it’s time to bring the league trophy back to Dortmund.

“Now it is about taking the last step together with our fans in our stadium in our city and bring the league trophy finally back to Dortmund,” he said after the game.

He added: “This has not been the season of missed chances, but the season of setbacks. It is now about taking the last step.” he said

Dortmund last won the league title in the 2011-12 season under Jurgen Klopp and they are now just a win away from repeating the same feat with Terzic in charge.

This is the first time since the 2006-07 campaign, there has been a change at the top of the Bundesliga table within the last two games

Dortmund hosts Mainz on the last day of the season while Bayern Munich travels to Cologne next weekend.
