South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned the first-ever champions of the African Football League following a 2-0 second-leg victory over Wydad Casablanca to lift the trophy with a 3-2 aggregate score at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.

Sundowns entered the match trailing 2-1 but managed to overturn the result on home soil to emerge victorious.

Peter Shaluhile and Aubrey Modiba scored for the home side to seal the victory.

Modiba scored a slick goal to win his team a continental trophy.

Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena hailed Modiba and said the goal was something the team practiced in training.

“It’s satisfying to score a goal from something we have practiced. We worked on that situation really hard. The finish? I can’t teach that. I would use another word, but to do that takes a big pair—but how good has he been for us?”Mokwena noted.

Sundowns have continued to dominate the continent, having now won three continental trophies in the last six years, including six domestic titles in a row.
