Patrick Mabedi, the immediate former Flames coach, has taken the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to court, just like previous Malawi National team coaches have done.

Mabedi had three objectives: to win six games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, qualify for the 2025 AfCON, and to win the Cosafa Cup.

He was fired last month, after losing all four Group L matches of the 2025 AfCON qualifiers.

But, Mabedi is accusing FAM for unlawful termination of his contract. He was replaced by Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa. In his two remaining matches, Pasuwa helped the Flames to collect 4 points.

Mabedi is requesting K157 million in court claiming FAM refused to provide him with compensation when he was fired.

His lawyer, David Kanyenda confirmed to have received instructions from Mabedi to take the matter to Industrial Relations Court (IRC).

Mabedi said he was on a fixed two-year contract from November 1, 2023 to November 31, 2025.

“FAM refused and neglected to act with justice and equity in respect of his dismissa,”

However, according to Mabedi, failing to meet one of these goals was not listed as a reason or basis for dismissal.
