The Malawi 2025 football season began with a Charity Shield match between Silver Strikers, the 2024 League winners, and Mighty Wanderers, the National Cup winners, at Bingu National Stadium.
The game marks the beginning of Malawi’s 2025 season, and the TNM Super League will begin the following week when champions Silver host FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in Lilongwe to kick off the new campaign.

Silver Strikers defeated Wanderers 2-3 in a penalty shootout after regulation time ended 2-all.
Sama Tanjong gave Wanderers the lead at the 26-minute mark after Blessings Singini’s cross. In the second half, Binwell Katinji tied the score before Singini of Wanderers scored once again.

Silver came from behind again through Patrick Macheso.
Since Bingu National Stadium is not their home field, Silver objected to the Super League of Malawi’s (Sulom) scheduling of the game there.
Silver chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said their home ground is Silver Stadium and not Bingu hence wondering why they should play the match at Bingu.
But Sulom is insisting that the match will be at Bingu since it is a launch match to open the 2025 season.
“We are wondering why we should host Bullets at Bingu when we have a proper stadium. We have written Sulom to change the venue to Silver Stadium and not Bingu,” said Chimimba.
