Kallisto Pasuwa, Zimbabwean coach, is under pressure in Malawi after the men’s national football team, the Flames, has only registered 7 wins in 22 matches in which he has taken charge.

The latest was the defeat and a draw against Ethiopia in two international friendly matches played in Ethiopia.

The Flames lost 1-0 over the weekend before a 1-1 draw last night, denting his records as Flames coach since he took charge from former Flames coach Patrick Mabedi.

Under Pasuwa, Malawi has 7 wins in 22 games. They have recorded 7 draws and 8 losses. Malawi has scored 18 goals and conceded 15 goals with coach Pasuwa, a development that is forcing Malawians to call for a replacement.

But speaking after the match, Pasuwa promised Malawians a better life ahead, saying the match against Ethiopia is giving him hope for better things ahead.

“I thought it was a game we were supposed to win; it’s complacency from our boys. At least we are going forward; before, we were not doing enough in terms of the attack, but we are able to do well now. Today the boys improved in terms of communication because you would see that they were talking to each other,” he said.

Pasuwa’s main target is to get the Flames to qualify for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Malawi will have to overpower Egypt, Angola, and Sudan for them to get a qualification.
