Haiya won an election by 23 to 13 votes in an election which happened in the northern part of Malawi yesterday.

He described the victory as a dream come true after it was declared that he had defeated Nyamilandu, who hasn’t lost an election since 2004.

“He has been a FIFA member and now a CAF member, he has been the president for 19 years, his vast experience can help us. So, I will be reaching out to Nyamilandu for advice,” he said.

“We need to rebuild our positive history, and I will work with everyone who is willing to support the game.” Nyamilandu had a plan to develop our game, this is why we will not leave him.” he added.

In conceding defeat to Haiya, the long-serving FAM president, Nyamilandu said he is leaving the office a happy man.

“I am leaving the FAM presidency, a happy man”-Nyamilandu.

Asked if he will still be part of Malawi football, Nyamilandu said he needed to allow the new committee to work.
