Zambian international Augustine Mulenga has left Chippa United to join another South African DSTV Premiership League side Ama Zulu FC.

Mulenga signed a two-year contract with Chippa United midway through the 2022–23 season with Zamba’s Napsa Stars.

After Thabiso Labitso’s departure from the Chilli Lads was revealed by the club this week, Mulenga becomes the second player to leave the team.

This season, the former Zanaco midfielder made 16 appearances in the DSTV Premiership; however, he only managed to offer two assists rather than score any goals.

Chippa United confirmed the development in a statement posted on their social media platform.

“Chippa United FC announces the departure of the esteemed Zambian national, Augustine Mulenga.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional talent and spirit he brought to our club. Wishing him all the best in his future endeavors. Farewell and thank you,” read the statement.

Mulenga rejoined Amazulu on a six-month-long deal with an option to renew further.

Reacting after his return to the club, Mulenga said: “If I think about it, of all the clubs that I have played for, I think I’ve enjoyed my career since the time l came here to AmaZulu FC. I didn’t even hesitate about rejoining Usuthu because l enjoyed my football this side,” said Mulenga.

“There are friendly people in this city who are very supportive. The supporters have been so amazing, and I wish they would continue like that to support me and the team.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team continue where they have left off from last year. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing journey again with AmaZulu.”

Mulenga was part of the AmaZulu squad that made history when the side finished in second place in the DStv Premiership in the 2020/21 season under the tutelage of Benni Mccarthy. That year, AmaZulu secured qualification for the CAF Champions League.
