Goshen Trust is bitter with the Malawi Football Association (FAM) on how they have handled the Goshen National Women’s Championship.

On September 29, 2023, The Trust, led by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, agreed to sponsor the league through a contract with FAM.

According to the sponsorship agreement, K21 million was intended for a women’s football tournament, K10 million would increase the team’s allowances, and K29 million would go toward the National Women’s team’s trip to South Africa.

It was only last week, that the FA informed the Trust through a statement that the tournament will kick off this coming Monday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, a thing which surprised the sponsor.

Malawi’s Women football on hold since 2023.

“FAM in conjunction with the sponsors Goshen Trust have pushed the games to early May to finalize procurement and tournament preparations.”

The Trust’s deputy chief executive officer Willy Kalonga said almost eight months after signing the contract with FAM, the two parties have not held discussions over the matter and only came out at the eleventh hour asking for funds.

Kalonga said they sent back Malawi women’s president Adellaide Migogo who had approached them for funding.

“It does not work like that, since September where were they? It does not work like that,” he said.

With this postponement, it means that Malawi’s Women players will still wait. Since the Scorchers won the 2023 Cosafa trophy, they have not played any game.
