Ian Bakala, head coach of CAPS United, has expressed regret after his team’s two-match winning streak came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Zimbabwe Premier League log leaders, Mwos Football Club.

The defeat was as a result of lapses in defence against the table-toppers on Thursday afternoon in an away encounter.

Makepekepe, who are battling to steer clear of the relegation zone, had shown signs of resurgence with back-to-back victories.

The result leaves CAPS United in 14th place with 16 points, two points above the relegation zone.

Speaking after the closely contested encounter, while praising his team’s effort, Bakala lamented how they gave up both goals, calling them “very avoidable.”

“I think the boys did well. It’s quite unfortunate — I think we lost concentration,” said Bakala. “You know, games like this are very difficult, where these guys are fighting here and there, as we are fighting relegation. You look at the way we conceded — it was very avoidable.”

Despite creating several chances, Makepekepe were wasteful in front of goal, failing to convert opportunities that could have changed the outcome.

Bakala also noted that fatigue played a role in determining the outcome of the match.

“It’s football, but responsibility is needed in a game like this. We’ve been changing teams every game, still looking at players. Some are not performing, and some are experiencing a bit of fatigue. We just have to work extra hard and look to the next game.”
