South Africa Betway Premiership side Richards Bay FC placed their faith in Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango, who joined the club from Marumo Gallants on a free transfer.

Richards Bay FC signed Mhango last month after his success at Gallants.

At Gallants, he scored with six goals before the club began to cut him when he sued them for not paying his image rights payments.

Bay FC coach Ronnie Gabriel said the club sold forward Yanela Mbuthuma, who was a key striker, and they needed a replacement.

Mbuthuma joined Orlando Pirates despite Bay FC trying to keep the player at the club ahead of the new season.

However, Gabriel hopes that Mhango is the proper forward to replace Mbuthuma.

“If you speak about Mbuthuma, yes, it was a loss to the club. He did very well for us last season; he gave us a few goals, and it’s good that he went to a team like Pirates, but we managed to replace him with Mhango, who is a good player. We went for the like-for-like; he is a quality striker,” Gabriel told journalists on Tuesday in South Africa.

Mhango made his first appearance in the 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarterfinal match on Sunday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
