Last month, Tanzanian giants Women’s Football Team Yanga Princesses Football Club unveiled Charles Haalubono as their new head coach on a one-year deal.

Haalubono spent 16 years at Zambia’s Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club, winning more than eight titles and icing it with a COSAFA gold medal last season.

Yanga princesses compete in the Serengeti Lite Women’s Premier League, a top-tier women’s League in Tanzania.

In an exclusive interview with BolaNews, Haalubono, who has been tasked with winning the league this season, is confident that he will be able to meet the target set for him.

“We have good players who are capable of delivering and able to win the League,” he said.

“So the most important thing that we will do as a club is to work hard and build a team with love and care for each other, not forgetting cooperation and coordination, that’s the target of the club.”

Charles Haalubono won the Cosafa Club Champions League with Green Buffaloes.

When asked how he compares the Tanzanian League to the Zambian Women’s Super League, Haalubono responded that he hasn’t had a chance to witness the majority of the teams yet, making it difficult at this time to rank the Tanzanian League.

“So far, I haven’t watched any women’s Football team or played at the moment; we are just training; it’s now pre-season, so it’s difficult for me to rate it,” he said.

First Zambian coach to manage a women’s club outside Zambia.

Haalubono also wished his former side, the Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club, as they embark on the COSAFA Cup championship title defense.

“My word to Green Buffaloes is that they should continue with the same spirit of winning; they are a good team, very hardworking, always winning, and I wish them all the best,” he said.

Haalubono will be attempting to emulate his local success story in Tanzania since he is now the first Zambian coach to lead a women’s football club outside of Zambia.
