Mufulira Wanderers general secretary Mumba Mwila has hailed the team’s improvement under coach Lameck Banda.

Banda joined Mufulira Wanderers at the start of the season, taking over from Tenant Chilumba, who had resigned after guiding the club to a seventh-place finish in the previous campaign.

Mufulira Wanderers, who finished seventh last season with 43 points, are now just one point away from matching that tally. They currently sit fifth on 42 points, with eight games remaining in the season.

Under Banda, Wanderers have played some decent football, including posting wins against household names like Zesco United, Green Buffaloes, and rivals Nkana.

Mumba told Bolanews in an interview that Banda’s improvement of the team cannot go without notice.

“We are happy that he [Banda] has lived up to the trust we had in him…when he came, we did not ask him to come and help us survive relegation; we gave him a mandate to come and fight for a respectable position in the league, and so far he seems to be in the KPIs [Key Performance Indicators] that we had given, so we are impressed,” Mumba said.

Mwila said the club hierarchy is not surprised by the improvement that the team has experienced under Banda.

He urged the players and the technical bench to continue working hard in the remaining games of the season while keeping an eye on the ABSA Cup.

Banda is hailed as one of the most promising coaches in Zambia.

He has coached the defunct Nkalambala Leopards and Lumwana Radiants. Most people took note of him when he guided FC MUZA to their first Confederation Cup berth.
