The derby presents arguably one of the biggest football rivalries not only in Africa but the world at large as the continent’s biggest stadium, the FNB in Johannesburg whose seater capacity is 94, 736 already confirmed sold out for this match.

The Buccaneers and Amakhosi will clash for the first time this season in the DSTV premiership with the two only separated by a point on the log standings as they are sitting 4th and 5th with 19 and 18 points respectively.

The two sides have played each other 36 times in the league, Amakhosi have won 18 times while Pirates have won six times, with 12 matches ending in draws.

A Combined total of 75 goals were scored between them during those clashes, with 44 of them by Amakhosi while Pirates scored 31.

Orlando Pirates are coming from an impressive 3-0 victory over champions Mamelodi Sundowns to secure a spot in the MTN8 Cup final.

Since the appointment of Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, the Buccaneers have transformed into a different and very confident team that is seemingly playing with a purpose.

The Spaniard tactician has engineered two wins on the bounce in all competitions with Pirates who have conceded only three goals in their last five fixtures and will bank on Deon Hotto, and Kermit Erasmus to ensure the Buccaneers get the bragging rights of the Soweto Derby.

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs have had a different misfortune this season which can be described as a roller coaster.

The Amakhosi last weekend crashed out of the MTN8 on away goals rule against Amazulu- a match in which they failed to register a shot on target.

The Arthur Zwane coached side have been blowing hot and cold this season but will head into the derby worrying about their recent lack of clinical ability in the final third.

Pressure is surely mounting on the Amakhosi coach, and should he fail to get a positive result, he maybe on the chopping block as the Soweto Derby is not just about the points but also pride at stake.

The last five meetings between Chiefs and Pirates have seen the former winning three while the latter managed only two wins.
