Eric Tinkler explains why fans must exercise patience with Khanya

"Players have come from Europe, or even other countries in Africa and struggled because of the speed of our game here in South Africa," Tinkler said.

Former Leicester City midfielder Khanya Leshabela, according to Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler, needs more time to develop in the Premier Soccer league.

After Leicester City was demoted to the Championship in February 2024, Leshabela signed a free transfer to a South African team.

Leshabela made his Premier League debut with Leicester City in March 2021. He has only featured in two matches for Cape Town.

The 24-year-old signed a season-long contract with Shrewsbury Town, an EFL League One team, on August 19, 2021. However, because he was not getting enough playing time, his loan stint ended.

After that, on July 26, 2022, the South African player signed a six-month loan with Crewe Alexandra of EFL League 2.

Head Coach Eric Tinkler told the media that most European players struggle to make an impression in the PSL.

“Alot of players have come from Europe, or even other countries in Africa and struggled in the beginning because of the speed of our game here in South Africa,”

“But I think right now, he’s kind of playing within himself and I’m pretty sure he will come out of that eventually,” said the Coach.
