FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has turned down the offer to participate in the 2024 Cecafa Kagame Cup slated for July 6 to July 22 in Zanzibar and Tanzania.
In 2021 Bullets also got an invitation where they finished as runners-up after a 1-0 defeat to Express FC of Uganda.
This year’s participants included TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Bullets and Red Arrows of Zambia.
Bullets administration officer Albert Chigoga said they opted not to take part following the current form of the team.
He said the club wants to concentrate on domestic competitions and also spend much time preparing for the CAF Champions League.
“We have informed them of our stand, we need to thank them for the invite, but our current performance has not to the standard hence our stand not to participate so that we focus on the league and cups also that we need to have a proper preparation as we plan to take part in CAF,” he said.
Chigoga said he believes their decision is in the best interest of the team.
Last week Mazembe also issued a statement that they learnt of their participation in this year’s Cecafa on social media and they are yet to confirm their participation.
Other teams to compete in this year’s tournament: Young Africans of Tanzania, Al Hilal and El Merrekh of Sudan, Gor Mahia of Kenya, APR from Rwanda, and Simba SC.
