Zambia’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group has been described as challenging by former Chipolopolo midfielder Noah Chivuta. The tournament will kick off on December 21 with the final on January 16, 2026.

Speaking to Bola News, Chivuta adds that Zambia needs to prepare adequately for the tournament to stand a realistic chance of reaching the knockout stages.

The 2012 AfCON winner states that the group is tough and will test the team’s ability to seal deep into the tournament.

Chivuta also believes there’s a chance for Zambia to qualify for the next round along with the hosts, Morocco, whom he has tipped as favorites to win the group.

“The teams we have, Morocco, Mali, and Comoros, are very strong opponents. It’s a very tricky draw. You know, Morocco, they are a powerhouse at the moment,” Chivuta said.

“But with Mali as well, a strong side, Comoros, they have been doing so well. So, going into this competition, I think we just have to really prepare ourselves and do well. I think we can still make it with Morocco.”

The former Zambian international midfielder has urged the technical bench and the association to work towards fine-tuning the squad in the upcoming assignments in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

“Preparation has to start now. We don’t have to wait for the 11th hour for us to start. All these countries will be playing some games. So, we just have to start doing analysis on these teams, which I don’t think they will change much,” he noted.
