Zanaco skipper Kelvin Kapumbu delivered a moment of sheer calamity leaving his coaches in disbelief after scoring a comical own goal in their 4-0 loss to Power Dynamos at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

With his side trailing 1-0 thanks to a Chifundo Mpasi 21st minute opener, Kapumbu doubled Power’s advantage in the 57th minute after a misjudgment turned what should have been a routine back pass into an unforgettable own goal.

Leading to the goal, Power  had been pressing high, forcing Zanaco into uncomfortable situations at the back. Under pressure from Dynamos’ relentless press, Kapumbu found himself with limited options and In a moment of panic, he decided to play a back pass to his goalkeeper John Ngobola.

Kapumbu swung his right foot, intending to send an easy rolling pass back to his keeper. But something went horribly wrong as Ngobola was not in the right position to recieve the pass, allowing to ball to stroll into an empty net.

Things got from bad to worse for Zanaco in the 70th minute when defender John Soko jumped high to connect a ball teed by fellow wingback Kondwani Chiboni to make it three for Power.

Six minutes later, Brian Masanyinga added a fourth a well taken long-range drive that made a clown out of the Zanaco keeper.

The result is a big blow on the Bankers who had been on a two match winning run while it is a welcome one for Power who until the game, only had one win in five matches.

Power have jumped two places up the table into fourth with 36 points while Zanaco are back into the relegation zone on 23 points.

At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,  George Lwandamina’s return to face his former side Zeasco United ended on a drawing note as his Nchanga Rangers came from behind share the spoils.

Abraham Siankombo’s fourth minute opener was canceled by Mwiza Siwale in the 26th minute.

Nkana stretched their winless run to three matches when they gave up a Lazarus Kambole lead to draw 1 – all against Nkwazi while there was a barren draw between Napsa Stars and Green Eagles.

Golden Mashata helped Green Buffaloes to their first win of 2025 when he left it late to score against Atletico Lusaka.  Before the game, Buffaloes had not won a match in nine games.
