Malawi is in Group L of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which includes Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Burundi.

On Thursday of this week, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the groups for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco.

The Flames coach Patrick Mabedi has admitted that they are in a tough group but with good preparations they can overcome them.

Flames coach Patrick Mabedi.

“We need to work hard; we need to dig so hard to have results. At the end of the day, it will be 11 vs 11 on the ground. We are underdogs; we cannot run away but to face them,” said Mabedi.

Striker, Gabadinho Mhango, stated that The Flames faced formidable opponents and called for proper preparation.

“I am not saying those playing for the Flames are bad players. I do not mean those players cannot give us results. Also, I do not mean the coach should include me in the squad, but the fact of the matter is that Malawi needs experienced players if we need results.

“It is a fact that Senegal and Burkina Faso are big teams and always play for results, also Burundi is a changed side, they drew away to Kenya that tells you that they are there for results,” he said.

Senegal and Burkina Faso will be sizing each other up, which will make it easier for Malawi to pick up points at home, according to former Malawi striker Esau Kanyenda, who played professionally in Europe.
