Washington Arubi, Zimbabwe’s national team goalkeeper, believes the Warriors will deliver a strong performance at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Zimbabwe is in Group B alongside Angola, Egypt, and South Africa.

The Warriors making a sixth AfCON appearance at the tournament, are targeting to win their first AFCON trophy.

Zimbabwe will begin their AFCON campaign against Egypt on Monday night at Grand ‘D’Agadir.

Zimbabwe last reached the group stages in 2021. Mario Marinica, who recently took over the team is eyeing a better outing.

Speaking to Cafonline in an interview, Arubi said.

“Wearing the Zimbabwe jersey means carrying the hope of the whole country. We know where we come from and what this AFCON represents for our people. Every minute on the pitch, we will play it for them,” he said.

Arubi is one of the most experienced players in the Zimbabwe squad, having played for the U20 and U23 teams, respectively.

“We are not playing only for ourselves. We are playing for those who came before us and for the next generation dreaming of wearing this shirt. Afcon is our opportunity to show the true face of Zimbabwe,” he added.
