Aguila Stars Football Club goalkeeper Owen Lungu kept a fourth straight cleansheet in Monday’s clash against Chipata United at the David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata.
The Eagles cruised to a 4-nil win over their hosts in a Week 20 encounter that was postponed to Monday following a heavy downpour on Sunday in Chipata, making the pitch at the DK Stadium unplayable. Goals courtesy of Hevious Phiri, Lawrence Lubinda Jr., Keke Sipuka, and Chisha Sinjela’s own goal were enough for the Aguila to move to tenth on the log table with 23 points.
Reacting to his performance, Lungu said it was not an easy match despite keeping a cleansheet. He attributes his impressive form in between the sticks to the hard work of the technical bench and personal discipline.
“It wasn’t an easy match; it was tough. We wanted three points, and we did,” he said.“I would like to thank coach [Elliott Phiri] for the training. He’s doing his very best. It’s all about hard work and patience.”
Aguila Stars’ next match will be against 9th-placed Chirundu United, who also have 23 points.
Lungu has hinted that the target will be to collect maximum points in a Lusaka derby.
He, however, warns that it will be a tough game.
“We just have to push again. It won’t be easy. It will be a Lusaka derby; we are in the same province. We just want to push so that we can collect maximum points,” Lungu stated.
Meanwhile, Chirundu United head coach Caston Chilekwa stated that he expects the match against Aguila Stars to be a difficult task for his team.
He adds that they will plan for Aguila Stars.
“Local derbies are not easy games, so we need to plan well and work hard,” Chilekwa commented.
