Hatayspor and former Black Stars winger Christian Atsu’s family and agent have revealed to Ghanaian news outlet Joy Sports that the player has not been found 24 hours after being pulled from the rubble.

The winger went missing for 26 hours after the first earthquake struck Turkey until Turkish media confirmed his rescue.

Hatayspor club vice president Mustafa Özat on Tuesday confirmed to the Turkish media that the Ghanaian winger was rescued from a collapsed building in Kahramanmaraş following an earthquake that has killed over 7,000 people in Turkey and Syria.

However, according to Joy Sports, a day after the rescue, the winger is still missing and his agent, Nana Sekyere, has said that all efforts to locate his client had failed.

“No club official or hospital staff have been able to confirm his presence in any hospital in Hatya or a neighbouring country, we are still searching for him, so are very concerned. It’s 24 hours since it was reported he’s alive, however, he has not been seen in any hospital.

“I am speaking to everybody; I am in direct contact with everybody at Hatayspor, I am also in contact with the Ghana and British consulates in Turkey and the Turkish football association,” Sekyere was quoted.

Meanwhile, Hatayspor club doctor, Gurbey Kahveci has also told Hurriyet Turkey that Atsu was not at the hospital were it was reported that he was taken after being pulled out of the rubble.

“When we heard the news that he had been taken to Dortyol Hospital, we especially went and looked, but he was not there.” “At the moment, we accept that [the sporting director] Savut Taner and Christian Atsu were not found, unfortunately.”
