Cameroonian football federation president and former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has predicted that his country will win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker has said Africans have gained more experience over the years and they are nolonger going to the World Cup to just participate but win the trophy.
“Over the years, African teams have gained more and more experience, and I think they are ready not only to participate in a World Cup but also to win this competition,” He said.
Eto’o argued that there is no reason why African countries will fail to win the World Cup when they have the same abilities like the others.
“I don’t see why we can’t win. I believe that to win the World Cup you don’t need to be monsters or aliens, you just need good preparation, a strong mentality, and a pinch of madness.”
He went on to say his country will play Morocco in the final at the purpose built Lusail Stadium on December 18.
Eto’o believes Morocco will eliminate Spain, Portugal and France while the indomitable lions will go past Belgium and Senegal in the quarter-finals and semi-finals before defeating the atlas lions in the final.
“Cameroon will win the World Cup final against Morocco,” he told ESPN. “Africa has always had the potential to achieve a successful World Cup, but we haven’t always shown our best face up to now.”
African countries have over the years failed to go beyond the quarterfinals of the World Cup and many are hoping the 2022 edition will present a new narrative.
Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana in 1990, 2002 and 2010 respectively are the only countries from the continent to reach the quarter finals at the global football showpiece.
